Foreword

Gambit continues to be the absolute pinnacle of Rappelz private server for nearly two years. Two years! We have set ourselves an unbelievably pristine standard of a service while creating a community that is filled to the brim with the best people one could surround themselves with. We guarantee to uphold that through the slightly clouded period of time we are unwillingly forced to experience.

Community

It is important to take gratitude and reach out to every single one of you that has made our community what it is today and express our undying gratitude for that. It is you who we would like to thank for being a part of this family. It is you without whom we wouldn't be what we are at this very moment.

We are sorry!

We, to every single molecule of Gambit, are so terribly sorry, sad and devastated we did not have the ability to react on time. We are sorry for letting you down.

We are sorry for disappointing you.

What is going on?

Unfortunately there are certain competitor servers which get struck by jealousy, anger or greed over our community and want it to themselves. If they can't have it, they attempt to destroy it. There has been a massive strike of a DDoS attack being carried out towards our service these last weeks. This is a very sad course of action. Not only does it harm Gambit, but it harms you!

What is a DDoS?

A distributed denial-of-service attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic.

How does this affect you

Due to our service being interfered with malicious intent, players in-game experience latency issues, such as lag spikes or disconnections. In rare cases this might result in a very brief rollback, maybe a minute maximum, of your character.

The website is also affected by this. Although it is behind Cloudflare and remains less interfered than the game server. At times there are heavy latency issues where the website is completely unreachable by returning you error codes such as 520 or 522.

Reassurances

We find it important to reassure the community that we are not going anywhere. We are here to stay and uphold to your continued expectations. There is absolutely zero chance we would suddenly decide to give in and shut down the service. The team is working tirelessly reaching out to all kinds of possible solutions to end this nightmare of someone elses dream.

Current solutions

Firewall

We have put up a 3rd party firewall to mitigate the interferance. Although this seems to have a minimal effect it still counts towards a positive step taken. This enables us to get rid of some malicious packets before they even reach the server.

DDoS shield

There has been a DDoS shield with a highly complex tunnel-like system enabled at 10th of October. Hence the need to manually update game launchers. This system hides the true target for the malicious packets and allows a 3rd party service to get rid of them in a highly effective manner.

Manual launcher updates

To reconnect to the game server you need to manually update the game launcher. To do so please download a suitable game launcher:

Remaining issues

Although, we have successfully stopped the DDoS attacks by using a filtered network tunnel, permanent damage to some unknown degree has been carried out to our dedicated server operating system. This results in multiple interferences on its own. The most critical issue is there are still some lag spikes happening from time to time. There are players who remain completely unaffected by this, but there are also players to whom this means disconnections from the game server.

Continued downtimes

The team gives their best to keep the service up and running throughout the interference, but some matters and solutions require it to be taken offline to be carried out. We try to keep the downtimes minimal.

Closing word

We thank you again for not letting your head down in this dire situation. Always take care and support one another within and outside of the community. The team is doing their very best to restore the optimal service and continue the normal day-to-day routine.

Your support is very important to us. Together we will put this behind us and go forward with even better service than before.

We welcome you to our Discord server which always has the most up to date information.
